2003
Conference Hotel:

Focus: RAWCON is a leading interdisciplinary forum for the
latest results in wireless technology, highlighting the intersection
of RF technology and wireless communication system design, particularly
for wireless data systems such as 3G/4G cellular, wireless LAN,
ultra-wideband (UWB), and fixed wireless. One recurring theme is
the impact of advances at the component level on performance at
the system level, and the impact of system-level requirements on
component-level design. The December 2003 issue of the Microwave
Theory and Techniques Society's award-winning IEEE
Microwave Magazine will feature selected articles from the conference.
Technical papers in the following areas are solicited for 2003:
- Mobilecom System Architecture (software emphasis)
- System Design and Implementation (hardware emphasis)
- Wireless Sensor and Ad Hoc Networks
- Emerging Technologies (e.g., UWB and SDR technologies)
- Antennas and Propagation
- Power Amplifiers and Active Components
- Front-End and Passive Components
Format: RAWCON has a single- and dual-track format which
enables attendees to attend presentations outside their specialty.
The conference is structured to afford ample opportunities for informal
interaction during breaks, meals and receptions. The Technical Program
features interactive poster sessions in addition to oral presentations,
and in 2003 will feature invited session keynote speakers to address
topics of special interest within each session. Poster presentations
are not scheduled in parallel with oral presentations. The Vendor
Exhibit is co-located with receptions and poster sessions.
Sponsors: IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S)
and IEEE Boston (USA) Section.
Technical Co-Sponsor: IEEE Communications
Society
Corporate Sponsorship: Sponsorship shares are available
for catered events (breaks, receptions, and the Banquet) during
the conference. Please contact Jennifer
Turso (732 981 3428) for details.
Vendor Exhibit: Monday Aug 11 and Tuesday Aug 12
Number of Exhibitors: 15-25
Attendees: The primary RAWCON audience is a cross-section
of technologists in wireless research and development from around
the world. The technical specialties of the attendees span the range
from active and passive components to antennas and propagation to
system architecture and performance, and this range of interests
creates the interdisciplinary nature of the forum. The average total
attendance at RAWCON has been approximately 180-250.
Press Coverage: Trade press participation at the conference
has included RCR Wireless, Microwave Journal,
Applied Microwave and Wireless, and RF Design.
History: RAWCON evolved from the Wireless Communications
Conference (held in 1996 and 1997 in Boulder, CO), which was founded
by Roger B. Marks. The inaugural edition of RAWCON was held in Colorado
Springs, CO in 1998. The conference moved to Denver in 1999 and
2000, and relocated to Boston in 2001.
